Dick Dent Bird Sanctuary is a 10 hectares (25 acres) reserve in Strand, South Africa.

This isolated bird sanctuary is located near the estuary of the Lourens River. It used to be the site of a waste water treatment works but is now protected within the Lourens River Protected Natural Environment. It is managed by the nearby Helderberg Nature Reserve with help from the Somerset West Bird Club, and it is now a habitat for a great many water birds.

A water bird, alternatively waterbird or aquatic bird, is a bird that lives on or around water. In some definitions, the term water bird is especially applied to birds in freshwater ecosystems, although others make no distinction from seabirds that inhabit marine environments. Some water birds (e.g. wading birds) are more terrestrial while others (e.g. waterfowls) are more aquatic, and their adaptations will vary depending on their environment. These adaptations include webbed feet, beaks, and legs adapted to feed in the water, and the ability to dive from the surface or the air to catch prey in water.

Hope you enjoy.

Very nicely done. We're you able to fly inside the sanctuary or did you film from just outside the boundaries?

The sanctuary is open to the public - IOW there are no fences and gates - it forms part of a walking trail and has a hide for photographers, which is often used by homeless persons to sleep in.
I flew from inside the hide. There are reserves under the control of National Parks where you are not allowed to fly or ride motorcycles etc.
