I remember reading that Dnieper river was belonging to one of several rivers used centuries ago to form a trade route from the Baltic sea to the Greeks.

Panorimo was still alive a few years ago in terms of member contributed geo located pictures that you could freely view to geo-travel and geo-sight see at ones desk.
I once made a map of rivers including the Dnieper as seen in this Google Earth screen grab.
Attached is a zip file of the kmz file containing my 'Russian rivers' project.
