That must be what happened to me a few weeks ago. Was flying in Northern California which tends to be foggy, and the Spark kept trying to auto land over the water.

To add another tip. If you’re taking off from a boat, launch in sport mode to disable the proximity sensors otherwise the Spark may go crazy since it’ll have a lot of objects around it.

These are some of my favorite shots that I've made with the Spark in the last week

The Spark weighs significantly less than other DJI products, so crashes have a lot less momentum, which leads to less damage. Same thing with my race drones, a 5 inch prop drone breaks something every crash, while the 3 inch prop drones rarely break anything when crashing, even at similar speeds.

Do you have it set to beginner mode? That may be why you have limited range and speed.
