What happens when you loose connection?

Always ensure that home point has been recorded prior to flight. Better safe than sorry.

    One for the books?

I have been flying my Spark for 10 months now so I have some experience but here's one head scratcher. I have four DJI intelligent flight batteries that I have numbered one through four so I can track their performance as time goes on. I cycle them through on each flight so that each has equal...

    Internal Fan

Aside from an array of microcontrollers, the Spark also has a hefty on-board transmitter. It all must be cooled hence, the fan runs as long as the Spark does.

    Flyaway spark

It had GPS at the time I lost contact, after that, it's anyone's guess as I had no telemetry and it was out of sight. I'm just glad it came home.

    Flyaway spark

Mine flew away, my fault that it lost contact with the remote. After a few scary minutes it came home on its own and made a grand entrance. Smart Spark!

    Night flying.

Thanks, you have confirmed my suspicions. Happy flying!

    Night flying.

I don't go wandering at night, just an up, take some photos and back down and don't go too high, always in clear sight. I notice that the Spark does tend to wander on its own when it's dark as opposed to staying in place when it's daylight. I watch it and manually keep it in place. The...

    Spark in the winter

One thing to bear in mind, a lithium-ion cell pack exposed to extreme cold can create localised "hot spots" within the cells if the pack is under load and the cold gets that far in. Instant auto-destruct! Keep the flight short but then, who really wants to go "droning" at -42C?

    Spark in the winter

I too live in Canada and have flown in sub zero Celsius temperatures. It isn't that cold yet but will get much colder. From what i have read here so far, using a warm battery from the get-go is wise and have everything fired up and ready before you got out and fly, right down to a GPS lock...

    New tablet.

I picked up a big tablet and put DJI GO 4 on it and everything works, telemetry etc. except no video! "Smartphone" shows video but tablet, no. I am using wifi, should it be OTG? Any insights? It would be nice to get the "big picture". Steve.

    Flying a drone.

Absolutely right. Use your brain and stay "on your toes". All too often there are those that put aircraft and thus, our "sport" in a bad light. I do not know where you are but here, Transport Canada has turned a watchful eye on us and like the United States, is considering licencing and...

    Flying a drone.

An observation. Flying a drone requires responsibility. Not everyone is comfortable with an airborne camera hanging around and you must respect that - privacy is important. Before I "take off" I check for other aircraft and listen for engines - if I see or hear, I ground myself. We live in a...

    The Spark can Do It!

More excellent control and photography. You must know your landmarks, I would be lost, that far from home (unless on foot). Well done. I live in Canada, that white stuff will be here all too soon.

    First flight over water!

I certainly understand your concern about flying over water (I too, have done it). Your control of the drone and photography was stellar! I hope I get that good. These little flying machines are tools as well and you used yours VERY well. You have my respect.
