Finally got a Spark - 2 Short videos with my first drone.

The only person manning it that day or flying to that field was me. I was about to put it away in the hanger and decided to film a quick loop of it. I found the drone footage made it look miniature.

Finally got a Spark - 2 Short videos with my first drone.

Finally managed to sit down and make 2 quick videos. Neither the editing or flying are great. I've only flown the Spark a couple times but I'm in love with it's capabilities. Hope to make some better content soon. Maybe some mixed camera stuff too.

    Anyone hit by rotors?

Pretty sure there has been instances of fatalities to the 'pilot' of drones / rc helos with carbon blades due to partial decapitation.

    Anyone hit by rotors?

I suspect it will hurt but the collapsing blade design and plastic construction will minimize the damage.

    Anyone use NON OEM props?

Of course I don't! Even making an assembly to do that automatically would slow production down a little. I'm just throwing out things that would result in a higher quality prop. I get that you say they are made in the same factory but I can see in your pictures that they use different molds...

    Anyone use NON OEM props?

I sort of disagree with the blind "requires testing" statement when it comes to airfoils and propellers. This field has been intensively studied over the past 100 years... Fluid Dynamic simulations on airfoils and such are available at reasonable prices for airfoil/blade design so almost any...

Such a frustrating hobby (sort of)

All these problems translate to real aircraft too (pretty much). The number of days where I've been stoked to go out and just blast around low & slow around the lakes to find overcast/wind/rain/something wrong. It can be depressing.

    Anyone use NON OEM props?

Instability (and loudness) screams blade imbalance to me.

    Anyone use NON OEM props?

Well, I can see one quick difference: The OEM props seem to have 4x cap-head allen machine screws holding the blades to the hub assembly. 2 from each direction. The non-OEM seem to only have 2 longer ones that are threaded from one direction. Also, I'd be curious if the blades were sorted based...

    Spark at 4286 mt / 14061 ft A.S.L.

The magic of electric motors - they don't suck too bad with density altitude issues or flying up super high. The blades will lose a little efficiency I suspect but the motors have power to accommodate.

    Anyone use NON OEM props?

A bit of a rhetorical question but I'll bite. Is it too much for me to pay? No, of course not. The cost difference between an aftermarket $2 or whatever prop and a $9 prop is nil for anyone spending the money on a Spark. I don't think that is a fair argument. I think some people would want...

    Anyone use NON OEM props?

Have friends in the plastic/composites industry take a look at it? (I actually do have friends who specialize in this..) In the end, we know that the DJI spark is an entry level 'selfie' drone with all its parts made in China. I wouldn't go out and declare the OEM Spark prop 4730 props to be a...

    Anyone use NON OEM props?

So long as the materials and construction techniques are the same - I wouldn't have a problem using aftermarket props... But just like propellers for real aircraft, small changes ( +/- an inch of length on the blade or a +/- a degree of twist on the pitch) can have large changes to motor speed...
