SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida today.

Video is low resolution from phone. Further degraded by digital zoom after effect. Then compressed by Vimeo upload. I'll try to zoom the HD footage from card for better results. Just wanted to get this up quickly.

Winds aloft gusting to 20 knots so constant alerts although aircraft remained stable to the eye.

It was a treat for my co pilot and I to witness the last shuttle launch to service the Hubble telescope.

I often wondered how many traffic accidents are caused to those unaware (tourists) of launches in the area and have to stop, look, and the next thing you know...

Thanks for sharing.

That was cool to watch. I am surprised that you were not in a no fly zone during the launch.

I too got to see a shuttle launch back in 1988. I was staying at a hotel in Ormond Beach. I was going to go towards Canaveral to see it better but the hotel manager wisely warned me not to join the madness of the traffic jam but to just make myself a drink and go sit by the pool and enjoy the view. He was so right. But even at that distance, it was a sight and sound treat I will never forget.

I was over 50 miles from the launch site which is a LONG LONG way from the NFZ. That's why the rocket looked so tiny!

The bulk of the NFZ is actually over the ocean since rocket always aimed away from land. There are plenty of places you can legally fly much closer if you check AirMap diligently.

Safety First!

It did not seem that you were far away. But the video is still cool to see. The Space X and Blue Origin rockets are so cool and are definitely changing the face of space travel.

Yes. I used digital crop & zoom in editing which made it look somewhat closer (and much blurrier).

Here is drone video that SpaceX released when testing Falcon lander prototype:

WOW! That was too cool. I wonder if they used "Active Track"? LoL! I bet that drone pilot had fun doing that video.
