Ice on Lake Michigan

Very good video! What causes the ice balls? Is the first barrier causes by a sand bar?

A couple photos and a video shot this past weekend along the Lake Michigan shoreline near the Silver Lake sand dunes. Check out the ice balls between the two frozen sections in the video.

Good job on the capturing of the ice.

Being from central Indiana, it brings back memories of when I use to snowmobile in the Upper Peninsula.

The shorelines were quite the treat to see if you have never seen it before.

Not to mention the ice under the Mackinac bridge.

Thank you for sharing EGRSparky . :)

Thanks! Ice balls form when temperatures are just below freezing along shallow beaches; a layer of floating slush is sculpted by waves into the ice balls. The first frozen section lines up with where the sandbar was in the fall so you are probably right.
