Don't bash me down too hard I barely know what I'm talking about : )

With all the talk of people trying to decide where the new Air sits in the line of DJI products and whether trading up or down or just adding on is a good idea I got an idea. Since assuming almost everyone here is a Spark owner.

With the addition of the Air, the Spark can become a transmission tower for the Air.

Send the Spark straight up a couple hundred feet. It now becomes your relay point for improving your transmission range for the Air.

Of course, it would need something that would do that. Something to carry and relay the signal.

Well, I suppose if this actually works you could do it in combination with any drone.

Always being able to launch in any direction for many miles would be interesting.

Would it work? Could even a specialized drone be built to do this? It could even be of minimal design needing no additional capabilities I imagine.

For consumer-grade drones, this capability will probably never come about.

Some military-grade drones have the ability to perform a "hand-off" or "relay" in that one team can send a drone up, have it travel to near its maximum range, then another team in the area of maximum range can take over control and fly it further than the first team. So, it's not really acting as a "range extender" for another aircraft...but, it's a way to expand an operational area.

I think he is referring to using cellular vs. WiFi... My buddies have been discussing that, the use of cellular over WiFi for controlling drones...

There's a slot for a sim card?

He distinctly said put a sim card in the aircraft, which is not possible.
