Terrestrial Ribbons at Dusk Under Stormy Sky (Spark Panorama)

Hi McCloud, thanks for the comment. I normally I try to be out flying just before sundown due to the warm lighting and long shadows that help bring out the relief in terrain as well as the warm colors. This particular day initially didn't seem to be very good because of the cloud filled sky...

Terrestrial Ribbons at Dusk Under Stormy Sky (Spark Panorama)

Anza Borrego Badlands - Ribbons of rolling terrain (mud/rock layers) adjacent to serpentine desert wash captured very late with only minutes left for "Golden Hour" as sun shines under storm clouds. Image by DJI Spark cropped and resized to 1920x1080 from standard 180-degree panorama. © Bob...

    My opinion about fly aways

I really like your idea about coming up with ways to test this, should be a fun Spark project that will benefit everyone with the results. OK on setting RTH altitude to 10-feet lower than underside of bridge/obstacle, but keeping in mind the actual elevation differential numbers to use for the...

    My opinion about fly aways

Again I like the idea but that is pretty much like initiating RTH indoors, probably smack up and into the bridge bottom :D as it obediently ascends to a thoughtfully set RTH altitude. Yes the scenario is good but it's the bottom of the hard deck that will give Spark a headache. Seriously...

    My opinion about fly aways

It's a good idea but I think for the scenario to play out as others have posted you need to be able to disable GPS while flying once you get more than the 30m threshold for full RTH routine (ascend, travel to HP and land) to occur as programmed and then observe the Spark's behavior. If you...

    My opinion about fly aways

I brought this up because I haven't seen any definitive info on this from DJI, other than users opinions which I value greatly and users posts similar to that shown below. I fully understand mapping, GPS and geographic coordinates and how they are used for navigation. My career of 25-years...

    My opinion about fly aways

On the non-GPS navigation scenario, I really do believe the Spark can actually navigate without GPS at some level. The IMU plays a crucial role in this (see below)l, along with the compass and time. I have also seen a post in this thread where a person lost GPS signal and yet the Spark...

    My opinion about fly aways

I was pondering if the Spark utilizes ATTI mode in actual navigation when GPS is lost which should provide angle forward/aft/right/left along with how much power/RPM the props are turning to establish approximate speed over time and hence the distance traveled when GPS positioning is lost. Then...

Desert Wildflowers and Clark Dry Lake Panoramas - Anza Borrego

Sorry I missed this...Yes I am using a set of ProPolar NDPL (Neutral Density w/Polarizer) filters for the DJI Spark. As you know that polarizing filters helps remove the sun glare from objects/surfaces to reveal more deep color, especially in foliage, seeing into water and deepening the blue...

    My opinion about fly aways

I was thinking on this when GPS is lost, the Spark also has the compass so it should be able to estimate distance and speed using time as well as direction it has traveled. How close to your home point did it get to for landing?

Desert Wildflowers and Clark Dry Lake Panoramas - Anza Borrego

I originally planned on retiring to Grants Pass, OR, bought a house, rented it while finishing my career, love the country up there. Long story short, I ended up deciding to move down here, just wanted to stay close to home (2-hrs from San Diego), as long as I can remember this was a place...

Desert Wildflowers and Clark Dry Lake Panoramas - Anza Borrego

You got that right. Borrego Springs is a certified Dark Sky Community, we have ordinances about using outdoor lighting and things, see link below for more info on this: The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA)

    My opinion about fly aways

That makes perfect sense, I assumed it just worked without much fuss.

    My opinion about fly aways

I haven't actually needed to access/load the multiple saved maps while flying but they are easy to create and seem to run 80MB each, see below of some I created using the Offline Maps function in DJI Go 4 V4.3.4 for Android. I suppose they might be loaded by the DJI Go app as needed while...

    My opinion about fly aways

Makes sense. I imagine no matter what the app automatically checks the drone location and then downloads maps as needed when you have internet access. If that's true then it follows that good practice would be ensuring you power on the drone/controller/app at a location with internet access...
