The down-link video data rate is significantly higher on 5.8. Something thought out in advance by The most Holy-Of-Holys, DJI. That and being a lot less used in everyday life. Just about every home appliance, microwaves, cordless telephones, including remote controls for garage door, tv sets and blu-tooth headsets, speakers and devices all use 2.4. Even your cable’s wifi is set by default to 2.4. A lot of laptops are still only able to get that band as well. A great number of cellphones can only use 2.4 still. Unless you have a dualband cellphone, that can switch from one to the other.
A lot of Spark pilots seem to feel that 2.4 is the best because of distance. And that is partially true if you live in less congested area. However they fail to realize that the 1080p data-rate requires a stronger down-link connection, having to transmit data at a higher compression rate can’t be acheived in the slower 2.4 band without the loss of picture quality.
It’s the reason you’re experiencing a better, more stable picture using 5.8.
It was no mistake DJI chose that band for their Spark

️
I fly letting the Spark’s technology choose for me. And generally its in the 5.8 band. I use apple mobile devices that can use either band if needed but definitely use 2.4 to connect to the Sparks remote.
I love my Spark

️ and try not to overthink the technology.
But in the end, it’s about what makes you happy.
