Gimbal at rest

New owner, silly question! When powered off, the gimbal hangs at an angle. When powered on, it centers itself. I guess this is normal?

Yes. As JMR mentioned, it takes its normal position as soon as you power up.

The gimbal uses electronic magnetic motors for its motion, so only when the motors are energized does it hold position. Otherwise it's able to free spin and the weight of the glass pulls it down.
