My Dad got a spark many years ago and never did anything with it. I took it out and have been trying to set it up but I can’t get it to power on. I let the batteries charge overnight but they only flash 1 green spot when I press the button and the charging holder flashes between red/green. The DJI website no longer offers spark support.

My question is, do I need new batteries to have a shot at making this work?

It's important never to charge DJI batteries while unattended. Batteries are most vulnerable during charging, and if something goes wrong, there's a risk of fire. So, it's best to always stay nearby while they’re charging.

DJI batteries can degrade quickly when left unused. In fact, it's not uncommon for them to become unusable after just six months of inactivity. I have some tips on properly maintaining Spark batteries here.

Unfortunately, DJI no longer sells Spark batteries, so your best option is likely to find used OEM batteries. eBay can be a good place to look for reasonable deals. Just be careful to avoid listings marked "for parts only," as these often indicate damaged batteries being sold for spare parts.

DJI batteries become unusable pretty quickly when set aside and not used. It's not uncommon for them to be rendered unusable after only 6 months.
