At my daughter's birthday party (9yrs) a bunch of the kids flew my Tello around and loved it. The VPS system held the aircraft in place and gave them a chance to figure out how to fly it.
Whatever you choose I'd really recommend that you focus on stability first so flying is a good experience for them.
Best of luck and let us know what you end up going with.

If you want a cheap fun drone just to buzz around the room get the F-36 Furibee. Great training aid as well.
I got a couple of them at about $10 each.
I actually put a FPV micro camera on one just for fun and it is a hoot to fly.

i had the syma, mastered it fast, moved onto a phantom :)
but i bought the syma for my father, he still hasn't gotten the hang of even hovering around in three years.
Getting one with vps or some kind of guidance may be very smart to help your kids achieve control and have fun quicker.

Tello aint cheap when it comes to three kids who will be breaking them... plus the lack of an included controller. As an alternative, find something that supports optical flow, that seems to work pretty well indoors. The old barometer based altitude hold devices dont cut it by comparison to OF.
