Yes, you can. Make sure you have the RC connected to AC before take-off and you can easily take over with RC any time.

I haven't had very good luck with much more than palm launch. I've had to pick up the RC on almost every occasion to regain control/land, etc. Since you're new, do yourself a favor, head over to DJI Forums and read this link: Prevent Fly Aways.

And for all:
I use palm launch and land if i am in an area that is dusty/ dirty.
Takes some practice but it can be done.
Reached up too high one day on landing and "got bit".
