"Mobile Cellular Data Required"

The manual reads, "Mobile Cellular Data Required." Is this true? I've seen people flying with Kindles, which don't use mobile cellular data. Please clarify.

It's only required if you want to use features in DJI GO that require an Internet connection. None of those features are required to fly.

I don't have cellular data, I use wifi to download updates

If we want the map to be displayed on the device do we need to connect to mobile data... meaning cannot use airplane mode?

Dji go 4 allows you to download maps ahead of time, so you don't need cellular connection for maps display. It's in the dji go 4 hamburger menu (look for "offline map").
