Flying a drone requires awareness of where you are and where it is. Case in point, Airdrie, Alberta is a "No Fly Zone" due to its proximity to Calgary International Airport. Many commercial jets overfly and a wayward drone sucked into an engine could kill hundreds. I had my older one there and only took it up a few metres to operate it, far below any aircraft (if a jet was that low, it's game over anyway). If you buy one, obey the rules - they are there for a good reason.

I am not sure what you're telling us here. Did you fly in a no-fly-zone but "far below any aircraft"?

Imagine malfunction where your drone disconnects flying up and away killing hundreds. Follow your own advice without any exceptions or excuses.
A good point! Thanks! It was an indoor flight though and I had a chance to take it to a fly zone and did. Glad folks are reading this.
We are pretty much safety conscious here... nothing wrong with what you are saying. Your best bet is to use some of the apps like AirMap to find safe places to fly. I also use FlightRadar24 to watch out of what's overhead. Remember, whenever you see or hear any aircraft you should take appropriate action, which should be to land (in Canada) and give way. I've had to do this twice in my 45 flights, we have a grass runway airport around 6km away.. so occasionally, there are flights to and from there that I need to be aware of.
Could not agree more. My Spark know I am in a "warning" zone, not a "no fly zone" as there is a small aerodrome about 5 km away. I too listen for engines and immediately descend and land until all is clear. And I limit my altitude to ensure a quick descent. Real aircraft come first.
