Ok when I'm in airplane mode my map is black works when not I've downloaded the offline map where I'm at is there a toggle to switch on plz help

As you described:
You toggle Airplane Mode switch "OFF" to get live maps. And when Airplane Mode is "ON" you see only the cached versions you've downloaded.
