    One windy afternoon

Another crappy day but Sparky amazes me time after time. I went out in 20mph winds with 35mph gusts - which Sparky handled very well - just to do some slow dolly like shots. So be prepared for a slow and boring video.

GPS satellites? You kidding me? The earth is flat.

    GPS and Battery Changes

Please try and get a basic idea of how the GPS system works to understand your observations. You might want to start here: Global Positioning System - Wikipedia Dilution of precision (navigation) - Wikipedia This is a good basic read to understand why it sometimes takes more time to aquire a...

    GPS and Battery Changes

see Time to first fix - Wikipedia The mentioned flash memory is integrated in the GPS receiver chip and is managed by the receiver chip itself. PS: GPS satellites are not geostationary. They are in a 12540mls orbit with an orbital period of one half day. So the satellites are moving around...

    1C charger

    1. No. The charger is responsible for limiting current in the cc phase of the charging process 2. No. See 1. The “intelligent” part of the battery only provides for some monitoring, eg charging current and battery voltage during charging and to abort charging if one of the conditions is met...

    My opinion about fly aways

If you want high precision and near 100 availability there is now way around redundancy, intelligent sensor configurations, a sophisticated degradation concept and lots of computing power. Just a teaser: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1270963815002758 But I am sure you won’t...

    My opinion about fly aways

Well, RTH without GPS could be done. Of course precision of present position estimates would degrade over time. Googling „position estimation using imu“ finds a lot of papers like this: http://iieng.org/images/proceedings_pdf/AE0516306.pdf I doubt DJI implemented these kind of algorithms.

Spark will NOT fly straight in Sport Mode

Just curious. There is a difference between a track error and a heading error. Your video is helpful to decide what it actually is. It looks like you are in an auto mission. So the drone does all the navigating to keep it on the track (the straight line) between the start and end point (your...

    RTH without GPS

It can't be calculated. I got carried away. Text corrected.

    RTH without GPS

No, with losing GPS the system only loses the ability to hold a position steadily and to navigate to a given position (home point) on its own. All other sensors like IMU (3-axis accelerators, 3-axis gyros), Baro (barometric altitude) are still working and are used to assist you in your piloting...

Gimbal pans left/right prior to takeoff?

Of course there is also a yaw axis or better said yaw axis stabilization on the Spark. The yaw axis is just not stabilized mechanically like the roll and pitch axis. Yaw is digitally stabilized. This is done by using a 1920x1080 pixel box (crop) out of the 3968x2976 sensor. The box is...

    Spark over snow

this is the one I think: Upgrade made to radar on Mt. Ashland to help forecasters And I’d stay well clear of any high power transmission like AM/FM/TV towers, cell phone towers or radar sites.
