Bricked Spark Controller

I bought a really inexpensive Remote for a Spark on Ebay. Not thinking it might be one of the bricked remotes from the firmware update about a year ago. So has anyone made any progress with how to unbrick the remote. I assume that is what is wrong with this controller.....

I had the Firmware issue with mine, Sent it to DJI, charged me $139, thought that was rather steep..But paid it
