Disturbing news for Android users

Not to discount what you're saying, there is some basis, but about the wrong things, our problems are with much more complex matters than just moving a drone using virtual joysticks or making it flip with a button. It's with constant refresh rates of every sensor onboard the spark, or getting a strong connection several hundred feet away. Those two seem to be at opposite sides of the spectrum.
Here is another thought if thinking it hard for DJI to get it right for Android or IOS platforms, my son has a 120 dollar toy drone that has no controller, just smartphone hookup and it doesn't go far or fast but it works perfect with his mom's iPad, his Apple phone, my Samsung phone and Samsung tablet. Now if a cheap toy, not sure who made , can work perfect on all these devices you would think DJI can do the same, that if they wanted too.

Not to discount what your saying either but it is the same as the spark drone, it has programming to interact with all operating platforms, no matter how simple or complex the information may be, it still has no problems talking fully with whatever device is in your hands. The base programming in this toy has more interaction with all controlling devices or platforms than the spark has and truly that can't be a mistake on DJI programming, it has been done on purpose and thanks to Apple it will only get worse and I'm sure all of the drones from DJI will be programmed in IOS soon.

Just for argument sake, if JDI do go all in with Apple and iSO what happens to their Crystalsky which runs on an android platform?

Dave

In recent news from Las Vegas electronic show DJI has announced some new equipment and products. The sad part of the news was the part that DJI will be marketing these new items exclusively thru Apple retail stores to start. The marriage of Apple with DJI has revealed it's ugliness in full color. If we all thought that the problems we have been experiencing with our Android devices were glitches in programming, not so. If Apple gets their way with DJI, which we all know they will, our problems and deletion of features have only begun. It will not take long for Apple to make sure all DJI drones will be IOS only programming, bullies like Apple and DJI will make sure Android users will be pushed out and for the consumer, we definitely can forget about any customer service, as if there was any to start with, any problems with programming or lost features will be dealt with as usual, we are working on it. They have already proven that with the OTG connection, half a dozen updates since it didn't work and still not working. The stench of rotting apples is truly making its way into the drone business and it seems to be coming from the DJI headquarters.
Maybe the Evo will be the drone for Android

Does your drone connect through a controller to the aircraft? If not then you're comparing two very different protocols. Side by side, your mystery drone, and the DJI Spark. Both connected through WiFi, mobile phones, no controllers, I bet you Spark will excel. And all telemetry data will be accurate, zero bugs. That's what I was getting at.
Edit: iOS is a more solidified device, from a capitalistic standpoint, it'd be mutually beneficial to get in a relationship with Apple. It might drop us as client, but those who want to fly still will just get an iOS device. Driving up apple sales, and streamlining the process of programming for DJI. Welcome to a non-socialistic society I guess xD this is also just for the Spark from what I see, it'd be a very small percentage of users dropped if so.

I was going to say the same thing plus the included screen for the RC in P4 Adv+ uses a modified version Android as well. So development for Android will continue for some time.

You get what you pay for - Spend a little more and get a device that is solid, stable, and reliable (ie., iOS/Apple) or take your chances (Andriod and the infinite permutations and combinations of hardware). If I was DJI i know who I’d develop for first.

I was going to mention the same thing they wouldn't have built the Crystal Sky using the Android platform if they hadn't intended keeping it around. Android will always be supported DJI would lose too much Market if they abandon it.

It doesn't mean anything, it's just another channel for DJI. Phillips Hue was in Apple stores very early on too, and it works fine on any platform (with an API too). Android still represents a massively bigger chunk of the market in total compared to Apple, so much so that DJI couldn't turn their back to it.

I agree with the comment that third party apps on Android are harder to master because of the more diverse hardware selection. They might all be running the same base AOSP versions, but every OEM throws their own twist on the hardware and software, and few of us are consistent in doing so even with our own products. (I'm no punch card vet, but do work in R&D for a smartphone OEM.)

Oh no....I vowed never to go back to iPhones and iPads. They lack functionalities but cost a lot more. Better hope they dont end up like Nokia.
Yeah I think the same, I do not want to go back to IOS is too restrictive, I always felt my iphone and me both were a property of Apple. if this is the case no more dji to me, good compepitors will appear with good and cheaper products....

How can they ditch Android if their own 1000 dollars tablet Crystalsky is Android based?

blah, blah, blah ...

This thread is too much like someone yelling "the sky is falling". I seriously doubt Apple has any plans to purchase DJI.

I searched back for exclusive product launches at Apple stores and found back in March of 2015 "HBO Now" started only on Apple TV - HBO’s New Streaming Service, HBO Now, Exclusive To Apple At Launch

Another exclusive launch involved the Hoover Camera Passport drone back in April 2017. This same article mentions Parrot and GoPro also had exclusives in the past as well. - Apple snapped up Hover Camera's selfie drone for an exclusive

Related to the Hoover, Apple did not acquire it but Snap Inc. did start acquisition talks with the maker of Hoover - Snap reportedly in talks to buy selfie maker Zero Zero Robotics

The only two areas Apple has broken away from it's core is music (acquired Beats to help with iTunes and health monitoring HW/SW.

And finally, looking at past Apple acquisitions they were to enhance or progress their current product line. For example semi conductor, augmented reality, or facial recognition. - List of mergers and acquisitions by Apple - Wikipedia

Sorry but IOS devices runming the same version of the O/S which is most are identical to code for whereas android with its multiple front ends manufacturer tweaks and different hardware is a nightmare and when your coding for a device with the ability to fly safe operation is a parampunt consideration

I had not ever used an Apple product until two months ago. Not sure why I was against Apple, but I was. To improve the experience in flying the spark, my wife let me use her old iphone 6, and WOW! A HUGE difference. I recommend you give it a try. To me, it's better to join them, then put up a fight in a battle you can't even weigh in on, other than giving up flying DJI. Once you get used to Apple, it's easier to use than Android, maybe more intuitive.
