How do I do this without removing the SD card?

Use the USB charging cable.

The Spark has to be powered up and the computer should see it as an external storage device.

You may use "Sync for DJI" nice iOS application that makes it smoothly

I use a Micro SD card adapter that plugs into a USB port.
