Flying Near Airports

Alright, so from my initial research, it's clear that when flying within 5 miles of an airport, a drone pilot is required to call and notify the airport operator and the tower. Simple enough. However, how close can you be to the airport, assuming that you've notified them? I've seen 1.5 miles somewhere, but that seems to be an old regulation and the only radius shown on Airmap is the 5 mile one.

Anyone happen to know?
