Flying using dji Go without internet access?

Every time I start the app on my old phone, it checks for a newer version prior to allowing flight. I'm getting ready to travel to an area where I won't have cell service. If I have no internet access, can I still use the phone with the controller and sparky? If so, how?

It is not really "allowing" you can just cancel nay update that he propose if it is not a critical one that DJI want to force.
You can try it in advance if Spark will work without internet access. Go to a location where you have no wifi known by your phone and use your phone without the sim card.
I would say it will work nicely.

You DO NOT need internet access when flying and it is preferable to use it like that
The only thing you may miss is the map (which can be downloaded before the flight for the area) and there will be no "live feed" of course.

I never have internet access when I fly. I have an old iPhone 6 plus that I use exclusively with my Spark and I don't have a SIM card in it...so no phone/data/wifi and I fly in airplane mode anyway.

An interesting discussion as I am toying with the idea of getting an iPad mini and have been confused as to whether I needed the cellular or just WiFi version. Also Phones have gps but do all tablets, do I need a tablet with gps?

I've been flying with a mini 4 WiFi only for a year now with no problems.

I don't think it has GPS.

I'll cache the map at home of the proposed flight area before the flight if I need a map.
