So I recently got around to doing the FlySafe update and now at home, I get the "must acknowledge" warning because the app "thinks" I am within 5.5km of an airfield (grass). Well, I am actually 6.9km from it, so my question is on what basis is this database operating? Is it FAA regulations? Transport Canada regulations (which are changing soon)? If its Transport Canada then the database is inaccurate. It did not stop me from flying, I saw the warnings previously, but now I have to acknowledge.

This has been bothering me for some time, and I would love to know why its so wrong.

I think the FlySafe zones have a lot of mistakes because mapping the whole of North America and updating them in real-time is a HUGE undertaking. I doubt that DJI has the manpower to handle that.

As time goes by the automated updating system will certainly improve. It's still a relatively new system. They will eventually provide a means to report errors and better unlocking features.

The upcoming changes to FAA and Canada regulations will only make this messier in the near term. All we can do is avoid the update -- or be patient.

My in-laws house still isn't on Google Maps and we requested the fix 4 years ago when they moved in!

Thanks Andre, its a shame that more resourcecs are not allocated to this, but for me its not a huge deal, I can simply acknowledge. I am extremely careful regardless of their geo-info. That air field is pretty quiet except in the summer, and even then, their approaches are not over my property typically. I have given way once in the year I have been flying at our place, so thats about how busy it gets!

Got my answer.... "Our geofencing systems are designed to provide some general protection to sensitive locations around the world, not to match any particular set of regulations that apply to a certain user/country".

So I guess I just have to put up with the inaccuracy. Not a big deal, but so much for facts!

The DJI Go 4 app is good but not perfect in defining safe areas to fly. As part of my pre-flight check I use the NRC RPAS flight selection tool Drone site selection tool | National Research Council Canada

And I use the AirMap app as well. After checking the maps I also scan the NOTAM list on flightplanning.navcanada.ca and zuluforpilots.com

Since none of these sites individually seems to have everything, I’m hoping the redundancy provides an extra layer of safety. Be safe.

I invested in the Drone Pilot Canada app, its excellent. Money well spent.
