How does Spark know it is operating indoors?

I had a recent interesting behaviour when operating in a jungle situation near a waterfall in Malaysia. The waterfall was quite enclosed by steep rocks and overhead trees which meant that a GPS signal was almost impossible at ground level. I am reasonably experienced so decided to take off and fly in atti mode. Take off was fine but the spark would not go higher than about 3m. I assume this to be caused by the indoor height limitations. So how does the Spark decide it indoors? Thanks for any help

It does not know it is indoor.
If there is no gps lock, it only has opti mode (downwards sensors) and won’t go higher than 5 meters. To avoid getting out of sensor range.
If the downwards sensors loose track, it goes to atti mode.

Thanks vlar
I read though in another posting that when flying indoors there is a 16 ft height restriction. Maybe the other posting is not correct. So it does not explain why my spark would not climb above 3m when working out doors under the tree canopy but in atti mode.
