Yes, it is happening! In just a few months new rules for all UAVs in Australia. Worst of all no recreational hobby fliers have been represented in the consultation process. We have only a short time to express our opinion via a CASA survey. The government bureaucrats, the pilot association, and the drone industry, have made submissions already. Pass this message to every hobby flier you know in Australia, we are 90% of the people these regulations affect, we all need to make our statements.

This is a link to the blog on the subject, it explains the rule changes & has a link to the CASA survey
I apologise for not being able to give a direct link to CASA, that link is in the blog description if you’re not interested in watching the video. The survey is only open to Australian residents, don’t delay or risk not being able to express your concerns.

Canadian Transportation did the same...
Consulting only professional instructors, with no
regard for the hobby users. And we have to get a
license before June, register and stamp the id #
on our drones. For a hobby category that they
class from 250gr(9 ounces) up to 25kg(55 pounds) !
?!? 25 kg for hobby ??!?
Authorities in many countries were impressed by the
"Gatwick saga" where finally, Sussex police declared
that they have no proof of drone activities in those
afternoon.

Thanks guys, if you read the survey it looks like the decisions have been already made. If we get enough people to rattle the cage it could make a difference. I believe they were hoping to slip this through without many people participating.

A few tips for Aussie pilots filling the survey

You can tick, that you own a model aircraft, instead of a drone. CASA uses 4 different names that apply to all RC flying machines. RPA, UAV, model aircraft, drone. Some people are concerned about saying they own a drone, calling your Spark or Phantom a model aircraft is not a lie.

Use the comment sections to give your opinions. There is a question about minimum age of unsupervised pilots, with not many options & no place to comment. People are having their say about this subject by adding into the comment section for previous question.

Don’t be shy. Remember the Tasmania referendum to build a hydroelectric dam? The choices were do we build a dam on the Gordon River or Franklin River. Over 90% votes were informal. NO DAM was scribbled across the voting form. That was over 30 years ago, no dam was built.
