Is it possible to connect an older Ipad to spark controller ? would I need a micro USB to 30 pin male cable ? and are they available somewhere?

It'll be possible if the iPad is on this list. You can connect the iPad to the remote controller via Wi-Fi.

The last iPad to use the 30-pin connector was the iPad 3 released way back in March 2012. Unfortunately it's so old that it's not even listed in the above referenced device list.

You can give a 7 year old tablet a shot - but it's along shot. Keep in mind that the iPad 3 was a clunker even when it was released. Just six months later they dumped it for the iPad 4 (with lightning connector).

For reference the 2018 iPad is on sale for just $279 about every two weeks.
