Connecting Spark, Controller and iPhone

I use an iPhone X as my everyday phone with Verizon. I have a backup iPhone 6S that is not connected to a cellular line that I'd like to use exclusively with the Spark. It doesn't want to connect to the 6S with the Wifi on. Is what I am doing even possible without a cellular connection?

I use both an ipad and an iphone 5s successfully without cellular.

I had some help getting the Spark setup yesterday and the guy said after countless tries it might not be possible because of the lack of a cellular connection. Thanks for letting me know.

No, you don't need cellular connection. In fact if you're using it as a dedicated device, it's suggested you remove the SIM card.

When I connect mine, just Sparky and 6s, I turn airplane mode ON (no cellular) and it works fine. My controller is still coming.

My connection program and you'd better move all data to computer .It's easier to control.
