EIS (electronic image stabilisation). Will we see this on future quads?

The Spark is using Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) to remove the YAW axis on the gimbal and to remove other erratic movements. EIS has been used in the Bebop and the breeze. What we havent seen is the combination of mechanical gimbal and electronic software stabilization (don't get this confused with OIS (Optical) as EIS uses software whereas OIS use mechanical for stabilization). The spark will be first to use this.

So to clarify, the spark will use more than 1080p of the sensor (it may use the entire sensor, who knows) to video and it will use software to stabilize and crop it back to 1080p on the fly.

The online videos looks very promising for a 2 axis gimbal and i think DJI will be adopting EIS on their future fleet. I can see this as beneficial as it can fix horizon issues without the end user even knowing.

Nope, DJI is far away from doing this.
Is has been there for ages in professional solutions like WiDV and for years in the simple bebop quads.
Also there is a Qualcom Android chipset that is focussed on this and is used by the Dobby, the Breeze, the Wings and so on and so on.

So DJI is trailing in this but has good marketing. Anither good parallel to Apple

I had a Breeze, and EIS on its own was rubbish. It seems to work well with the two axis gimbal on the Spark though.
No reason it can't be used on high end models with a 3 axis gimbal, but you'd lose resolution from 4K as eis shoots in 4K, but crops it down to 1080, which is what gives the video its stability.

DJI's gimbles are top notch and EIS use in future products would most likely be minimal to keep highest resolution possible by the cameras.
The Spark seems to be their first attempt at using EIS to replace an entire axis of the gimble. Future products might include a very minimal 3rd axis arm (limited angle of rotation instead of a free rotation) that works in conjunction with EIS for smooth video so long as very fast turns aren't performed.

Yeah... Sooner or later we'll have EIS do all the stabilizing...im kinda surprised it hasn't happened yet. The Rylo 360 camera has great stabilization... As does the GoPro 7, and some others.

It won't be long.
