palm launch require phone connection?

do you have to have the spark connected to your phone in order to do palm launch? i was not able to palm launch using just the drone. also do i need to be in "go fly" mode on in the app for this to work or not?

I don't believe so. But I don't have it yet...

No, just power on the Spark, double tap the power button, wait until it 'sees' your face and it will take off. It is a little unnerving flying a quad without a controller.
