I have not yet received my Spark but while waiting been watching Youtube videos and trying to learn as much as I can. I realize that when using a smartphone to control the unit the communication is very limited and effected by the amount of radio activity in the area. My question is this: when there is poor communication according to the screen readings and the video is sometimes choppy, is that what is being recorded to the on board SD card or is the recorded video not effected?

Video from the SD card is 1080p with no cut-outs/ pixelation.
It is as if the SD card has a direct feed from the camera.

I strongly recommend getting the remote as soon as possible. The RC takes Spark out of the realm of toys and unleashes a while new device. Enjoy
Agree completely. The Spark may be marketed as an entry-level drone, but the remote makes it so much more. I actually fly my Spark far more than I fly my more expensive Phantom models.
