Hello,

My spark is due for delivery tommorow! Before my first flight I have a few questions and this seemed an appropriate to ask.

My questions are:

  1. Is it true that the OTG cable doesn't work with the spark anymore? (I'd prefer to use this over WiFi)
  2. What is the best WiFi frequency to use with the spark in the UK? 2.4 or 5.8?
  3. Any other tips for a newcomer?
Help appreciated :)

No. However, Wi-Fi works just fine for many people.

Any other tips for a newcomer?

Hello mate. Welcome to the club.
OTG is pointless if you’re on iOS (doesn’t work on android anyway).
Similarly, for WiFi - if you’re on iPhone then mine tends to go with 5.8 as it’s less congested (I’m in Yorkshire btw), and I think android users are stuck in 2.4 anyway.

Yeah I'm on iOS, I have an iPad that I intend to use with it so I'll make sure it uses 5.8. Thanks for the help!

Read the manuals, watch the videos and take advice from those with experience on these forums. From all these, develop a pre-flight routine and follow it

No worries! Look forward to seeing your first video!

Yup using ios ipad mini 2 .Wifi works great...There is no need for Otg...
The Spark was not made for crazy long flights like the Mavic and even then you should not fly past LOS in most countrys..
I have owned the spark for a little while and cannot find one answer to why the Altitude symbol in the App under 6 meteres is an arrow with wifi symbols underneath and then changes to an H for height...All i can think is under 6meteres it is using vision positioning to sense height
Anyone know for sure....

Fairly newbie here and on iPhone here in US.
Can you give me the short version of why pointless on iOS? Seems I remember reading with last update, OTG works on iOS but still not on Android. Just curious. Thanks!

In a Nutshell ...OTG is really pnly to cut down the latency of video from remote to phone/tablet....
ios seems to not have the same laggy latency as Android does ...I amongst others believe Dji just work more fluid and better on apple products as easier to get the App wtitten correctly for them ....Android is just far to broad across its range ....AND THIS IS COMING FROM A GUY THAT SELLS PC AND MOBILE GEAR FOR A LIVING WHO PREFERS THE OPEN STRUCTURE OF ANDROID..
Cheers
Craig
Ps You will see alot of us that have bought an ipad mini just for Dji products like the Spark

Hello,

Take it slow and don't try to break any world records right off.

If you're not sure of something, just stop doing anything. The Spark will just hover in place in the meantime. Only exception is when battery has given warning. Then you have a limited time to get it to a landing spot.

There's a couple ways to direct your Spark back to you if you lose sight of it. You can of course look at the image and try to figure out where you are in relation to the ground.
The map box down on the left has a triangular arrow that represents your spark. The narrow pointy end represents the front of the Spark.
If it's moving towards the H you're in good shape even if you can't see it (assuming home point is set)

Or you can just look at the distance. If the distance increases you're going farther away, and if it gets less you're getting closer. You can make slight adjustments.

Third you can follow the line it has been drawing in reverse, if there is a straight line.. I've found this not always a perfect solution if you've been doing lots of moving in an area, but it works most of time. Resizing the map helps.

I lived in Grenoside for ten years. Worked in Sheffield near the Parkway. Escaped home to North Yorkshire though. Got a soft spot for Sheffield though.
