Saving Spark Settings

I'm a Spark Newbie and I need help with saving settings. Every time I go to fly my settings are all at factory default??? It appears that some settings are saved when Spark and RC are connected and some are saved with the RC disconnected from the Spark. For instance I am not able to save the custom buttons to the RC. Is the Spark connection needed to do this? It would also be nice if the App had a "Save" or "Apply" button.Thanks in advance for your time. PS: I am using an iPad Mini2 with IOS 11 and no OTG.

Usually it is better to always do the settings with RC and Spark connected as we can only guess what is locally saved and what is saved in the Spark.
Regarding the buttons, you cannot save them but with the Spark connected or not ?
You indicate not using OTG cable, OTG connection is known to have some more limitation for IOS devices than android, including the saving of the RC buttons.

Connect to spark and leave it remaining on.
Make changes on the Go app and then exit the GO app without turning off the spark.
Start Go app again and see if the settings have applied.
