I was having this frustrating problem also. I tried different phones, uninstalls and reinstalls of the software, settings on the phones, etc... Then I opened the remote controller and inside there there is a flat plate with a lot of pins in the bottom, it was loose. I pressed it back down so that the pins would be inserted all the way into the holes and put it back together. I started it again and I immediately detected it. apparently this part fits in there quite loose so a small drop of the RC or maybe even vibration from carring it around can make this plate disconnect.
