Just Another Irresponsible Drone Pilot

What nobody has picked up on is any fool who flies BVLOS has their situational awareness seriously compromised.

The idiots that fly out to 1km or further only have their FPV feed with limited FOV (the camera) for reference as well as losing any aural sense to alert them of approaching aircraft.
There is no possible way they would be able to detect a manned aircraft coming from behind their UAV or even out of their field of view. A situation like this can be easily avoided by keeping the UAV within VLOS.
No argument, it’s just a fact.

For sure. I do think there should be some kind of drone-piloting test, even as an owner.
100% agree...its also unbelievable that the FAA gives a test (107) for certification and the person being certified can have 0 (zero) hands on skills. Hell they could quite possibly not even own a UAV.

Not in the UK.
For CAA certification we must take an exam, then write an operations manual that must be submitted to the aviation authority and we must also take a flight assessment which includes up to 4 ‘emergencies’ thrown in by the examiner.
Failure to react as per your emergency/boldface procedures as laid down in your ops manual means an instant failure.

Thanks for the info...it's truly the only logical way to certify someone.

Quite frankly anything that would involve the safety of others should involve a test AND re-testing after X number of years.

In the USA where I live, that SHOULD include drones in the same way we test for driving vehicles of any sort. Oh, and let's throw guns in there since we let anyone own those, too.

So idiotic. I don't like over-encroachment by government, but when it comes to common sense - the government should be involved. And yes, sometimes that will come at the expense of our own enjoyment. But so be it.
