Need to turn on the controller twice

For some reason spark won't show up on my wi-fi. I turn on the controller first, then the spark. No sign on my phone. Turn off the controller, turn it on again and up it pops! Works every time. But never when first turned on. Any ideas?

I presume you don't use OTG cable to connect phone to RC. Are you going into your phone's WiFi menu and selecting the Spark, then putting the phone in Airplane mode? You should be able to affect a connection between the phone and RC via WiFi even if the Spark is not turned on. After you turn the Spark on, you'll see the RC and drone have linked when the RC's light turns from red to green. When you load the Go 4 app you should see a green indication in the lower left corner saying "connected".
